With "Excessive Outburst Of Depravity" Protector, the German-Swedish band around Martin Missy, the only remaining member of the original line-up, releases the fourth album after the reunion in 2011, this time again via High Roller Records. Since the revival of the band, Protector are now fortunately known to a larger number and especially to a new generation of metal fans, yet Protector unfortunately belong to the club of the most underrated metal bands of all time. In a fair world Protector would have the status of a band like Sodom, but well, that's another story...
In my opinion, there are currently only a few bands that play traditional thrash metal at such a high level as Protector. The great achievement of the band is not to define themselves as a pure retro band despite the cool old-school spirit and to sound fresh, aggressive and hungry even nowadays. The new work is no exception and once again bangs from front to back and reaches high deflections on the scale in terms of power and speed, so that absolutely crude, but still high-class thrash with occasional death metal influences is truly celebrated here. The pre-released "Pandemic Misery" dealing with the Corona pandemic is an absolute blast that shows all the trademarks of the band. "Open Skies And Endless Seas " shows the deathmetallic side of Protectors, here are also powerful, mighty rolling midtempo parts to hear. "Referat IV 4B ", which thematically deals with the darkest chapter of German history, the extermination machinery of the Third Reich, and "Infinite Tyranny" are again damn fast thrashers, while "Cleithrophobia" convinces with great, aggressive riffing and a successful solo. In general, however, it is difficult to highlight individual songs, because all the tracks on the album are on a high level. As with the previous albums, Martin Missy, together with a new crew, has managed to perfectly capture the spirit of the old days without sounding dusty. Kreator have delivered a great, convincing work these days, but if you need a new pure old school killer record, Protector's new album will serve you perfectly!
