INTERVIEW ATOMWINTER
When you hear the name Atomwinter, you inevitably think of black metal, but under this name there are some metalheads from Lower Saxony, who play their own version of traditional death metal. This interview was conducted a few years ago, precisely in 2013 on the occasion of the release of the debut album "Atomic Death Metal". Since then, the band from Göttingen has released three more full-length albums, most recently last year. At that time, the band was still a five-piece, as the debut album is the only one, in which the line up included two guitarists. It's also interesting to note that the line-up has remained the same in three of the today’s four positions since the interview, only the vocal position has changed since then, but twice. I spoke to guitarist Benni back then.

INTERVIEW FROSTSHOCK
The newcomers from Frostshock are currently stirring up the underground with their self-titled debut album (read the review HERE). A good reason to find out more about the band's background and their excellent, explosive death/thrash mixture. The bandmembers, who likeable don't take themselves so deadly serious, are delighted and grateful for the recognition they are currently receiving. But read for yourself.

INTERVIEW ASCHENVATER
More or less by chance I came across Aschenvater from Saxony, Germany, who create great, primal death metal that should make fans of bands like Asphyx and Hail of Bullets extremely happy! I talked to singer Oliver and guitarist Marko about the not too long band history, the great EP "Landungsfeldmassaker", German lyrics, Martin van Drunen, Bolt Thrower and the influence of the Warhammer universe.

REVIEW INVOKER "TOWARDS THE PANTHEON OF THE NAMELESS"
I would like to point out here once again a great, unfortunately probably too little noticed album, namely the third Invoker album called "Towards the pantheon of the nameless" released in 2020 by Einheit Produktionen. The band from Saxony-Anhalt presents on this release an absolutely outstanding mixture of death and black metal in the perfect tension between roughness and harshness

REVIEW FALSE MUTATION "UPON THE THRONE OF BAPHOMET"
When I recently stayed in Hattingen for the interview with Defected Decay, Dirk, one part of this duo, pressed a CD of his other musical playground called False Mutation into my hand. This is the 2019 album called "Upon the throne of baphomet". And what can I say? Fans of dark, vicious sounding and brutal death metal who especially love the US style of bands like Deicide, Defaced Creation, Aeon, Immolation or even the German Purgatory, will be thrilled. Dirk seems to run the whole thing more as a lover's affair for friends and acquaintances, but the songs are far too good to be reserved for a select few.

INTERVIEW MILLE / KREATOR
"Global problems are also difficult to solve at the local level. As long as humanity does not see itself as a world community, it will hardly be possible to carry out rules that effectively counteract climate change."
After I had already conducted an interview with Mille more than five years ago in the run-up to the release of "Gods of violence", the new strong "Hate über alles" album, which this time managed to land at number 2 in the German album charts, offered itself as a good reason to repeat the matter. Since then, a lot has happened in Germany, Europe and globally, just think of the Corona pandemic, the increasingly apparent climate change, the war in Ukraine and also the, at least in the social networks seemingly clearer division of society. I talked about these and other topics with the band leader, who now lives in Berlin.

REVIEW PROTECTOR "EXCESSIVE OUTBURST OF DEPRAVITY"
With "Excessive Outburst Of Depravity" Protector, the German-Swedish band around Martin Missy, the only remaining member of the original line-up, releases the fourth album after the reunion in 2011, this time again via High Roller Records. Since the revival of the band, Protector are now fortunately known to a larger number and especially to a new generation of metal fans, yet Protector unfortunately belong to the club of the most underrated metal bands of all time. In a fair world Protector would have the status of a band like Sodom, but well, that's another story...

INTERVIEW CALL FROM SUBCONSCIOUS
Call From Subconscious were a band from the beautiful Franconian city of Nuremberg, Germany that existed in the period 1990-1997. Post mortem, the recordings of the band that never made it out of demo status are now officially released on a discography CD (and tape) called "Sorrow and avidity" by the Greek label Repulsive Echo Records, more than two decades after the demise of this formation. However, this is completely justified, because even if no technical masterpieces or sound fiddles are to be expected here, the album is more convincing with what really matters, the music and its charisma. So if you like old, melancholic and sometimes extravagant, but never cheesy death and doom metal, you will definitely find what you are looking for here. In addition, the CD convinces with a really beautiful artwork. Listen to the band and buy the CD if you want to acquire a small piece of German metal underground culture. Looking at the photos, you can almost feel the breath of time and nostalgic memories of the golden era of death and doom metal spread. But now read for yourself. I talked to ex-guitarist Stephan, who makes a strong plea for uploading old demo recordings on YouTube before they are forgotten and decay. And: Where is Herbert ?
Hi. Thanks also to you for your interest. Systematic desensitization works only and exclusively through the call from the subconscious, that's correct. But now to the interview questions, hopefully with full consciousness.
Yes, it is amazing when suddenly, after such a long time, a label takes notice of you and wants to release something. At first you think it's a misunderstanding and ask again if you're really meant.

INTERVIEW SLAUGHTERDAY
Slaughterday, the creative duo from Leer in Lower Saxony, Germany, have been delivering high quality old school death metal since 2013. These days their third album called "Ancient Death Triumph" is released, a welcome occasion for a talk with vocalist and drummer Bernd.
Hey, first of all I hope you’re doing well during these unordinary times. Did you have to cancel some of the gigs and / or are some of them postponed to a later date ? Could you play some gigs since the outbreak of corona (or should I better say „outbreak of evil“ ).
Hey Gerald, we are doing well, although the corona situation is really fatiguing these times. Unfortunately, we had to cancel some shows at the end of the year and some festivals got postponed. It feels weird to release an album, knowing that you will not be able to promote it by playing live shows. The postponement of some festivals also put us on hold for the year after next. Until then we will not be the centre of attention anymore so maybe we have to wait for another album release again. Luckily we are not affected jobwise.

INTERVIEW MANGLED TORSOS
Please tell the readers of Systematic Desensitization Zine who you are and some facts about Mangled Torsos: when did you start the band, what were the main reasons and inspiration for starting an own band and did you know each other or did you get in contact because of searching for musicians to start a band ?
Frank: Hi and first of all many thanks for your interest! I'm Frank and I didn't start the band but played bass in Mangled Torsos.
