INTERVIEW FROZEN SOUL

In my eyes it's hard to miss, there's a ton of mid tempo death metal in that album, tons of slow heavy parts, it really screams frozen soul to me, haha! -about Sentenceds "Shadows of the past"

After I had bought the great debut album of the Texans from Frozen Soul a long time ago, I recently saw the band on tour as support of Dying Fetus. Their cool old-school sound, which is an intersection of Bolt Thrower, Massacre and Obituary, was very well received there. A good reason for a little interview with vocalist Chad Green.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, how are you doing on the tour? How were the reactions towards you from the crowd? Do you get along well with the other bands and were you able to gain new fans?

I’m doing great, the tour has been amazing and a great learning experience! The crowd seems to be loving what we do, just about every show has been packed before we play and has gotten crazy! I think we've gained quite a few!

Concering the billing of the tour, for my taste, Nasty and especially Cabal didn't fit in so well. Sure, it's a matter of personal taste, and I don't expect you to criticize your tour mates, but there were more better possible packages. Your thoughts?

I think this tour is great, mixed bills are always way cooler in my opinion, you've got a healthy mix of metal, hardcore and deathcore and the show goers are loving it! This tour is all about in your face aggression and Nasty and Cabal definitely deliver that perfectly, I wouldn't have the tour any other way!

The tour started in Cologne, then went to the Netherlands, the UK, Ireland, Belgium, France, Switzerland and back to Germany. Have you ever been to Europe as a band? Or privately in some of these countries? What were your impressions of the mentality of the people, the architecture, the nature, especially in Germany? Were your expectations fulfilled, were you surprised, positively or negatively?

Most of us in the band have never been to this side of the world, but we have been very impressed and enjoyed it very much! Everyone has been super supportive and extremely nice and accommodating, actually better than the states in some areas! We are very surprised by the amount of support we are reveiving, it’s been great!

It's been two years since your debut album came out, and it has polarised people: if you look at the reviews on Metal Archices, there are only very good reviews, and a few very bad ones that accuse you of being uninspired. How do you see that?

People can think what they want, we're just writing music we want to hear ourselves and focusing on being happy. Metal is a genre that has truly reached it’s limits already, we aren't trying to rewrite the storybook, we just continue to read it and find new ways to enjoy it, we want to have fun doing what we love!

If we talk about Germany again, do you have any contact with German Death Metal? Atrocity, Morgoth, the unfortunately totally underrated Torchure, Obscenity, Lemming Project? Do you know or like any of these bands? And check out Defected Decay, cool Bolt Thrower / Asphyx / Grave - inspired death metal.

I love Morgoth! Haven't heard the majority of the others but I will check them out!

Let's move on to American death metal. Soon there will be a documentary about Incanatation, one of my absolute favourites. What do you think of this band? And can you give us any (secret) tips about bands from the busy local and Texan scene? I remember the great War Master, but unfortunately they don't exist any more....

I’ve heard, actually the same guy is wanting to do one for us as well and will be on tour with us filming soon! Incantation are legends, very good and in my opinion an underestimated band. Without them there wouldn't be a resurgence of the old school death metal sound right now. Texas has a lot of strong and incredible death metal and hardcore bands, Creeping Death, Tribal Gaze, Flesh Rot, Soledad, Fugitive, True Grit, Ozone,  Kombat, Dysmorphia, Church of Disgust, Stabbing, Judiciary, Skeleton, Slaughter Swamp and a ton more!

In an interview you mentioned Sentenced's debut album "Shadows of the past" as one of your favourites. A choice I would not necessarily have expected. Describe to the readers, maybe especially to those who are not yet familiar with the album, why this one in particular is so great!

In my eyes it's hard to miss, there's a ton of mid tempo death metal in that album, tons of slow heavy parts, it really screams frozen soul to me, haha!

Your video clips partly show a preference for horror films, which ones can you recommend? Have you seen "Midsommar", I thought it was pretty good?

We are all horror fans, "Midsommar" was awesome. Some newer movies I can recommend are "It follows", "The Ritual", and the "Terrifer"- series of movies.  Classics are "American Psycho", the first three "Hellraiser"- movies, "Martyrs", and "The Thing" from 1982.

What does the near future hold for Frozen Soul? When can we expect a new release?

New music will be released really soon, we hope for more crazy tours, wild festivals, more Wrecking Ball Metal Madness (livestream and live fest), and for it all to never stop.

The last words belong to you!

Thanks for having us!
